International Law

Collaery Lawyers is actively involved in issues of international legal significance. Our international law practice is led by Bernard Collaery who holds in depth practical experience of international law. Bernard has advised international agencies, embassies and individuals on a wide range of cases involving different countries, procedural rules and governing laws. Bernard attends international law conferences and seminars to keep abreast of recent international developments.

Some work of our international law practice:

• Providing legal advice to the High Commissioner for Refugees during the MV Tampa Boat People Affair.
• Providing advice to a government client on the UN Security Council Resolutions affecting Iraq.
• Comprehensive submissions on international maritime law in the Inquest affecting the HMAS Westralia tragedy by consultant, Ernst Wilheim.
• Preparing an Opinion on the proper construction of the Air Accidents Act and international civil aviation treaties.
• Advising President Xanana Gusmao in relation to the United Nations administration of East Timor.
